Hair Loss Treatment for the Elderly
Or how elderly people avoid baldness
As we age, we endure a number of transformations which include facial changes, changes in body composition, structure and even posture. Many tissues become weaker and lose their elasticity with age. These changes are normal for most people. However, they can affect different areas of the body, which alter the aesthetic image of the person, such as hair.
Hair becomes sparse both in men and women as they age due to deficiency of various essential nutrients or hormonal imbalance in the body. Such factors as slow cell renewal and delayed regenerative process also play an important part. Thinning of the hair is one of the main causes of age-related baldness. Elderly people should educate themselves about the natural processes that lead to loss of hair at a certain age, and about possible hair loss treatment that can help hair grow or remain in a better condition. It is relatively rare to see elderly people with long hair, because it gets more difficult to take care of such hair with age, especially when it gets gray, dry and brittle. However, you can always extend your hair's lifespan by using the hair treatment techniques mentioned below. These tips apply to other ages as well.
- Regularly massage the skin on your head with fingertips or a soft brush. Massaging increases blood circulation, which in its turn promotes better nutrition and regeneration of hair roots. Since the three main areas that are affected by hair loss are crown of the head, front and temples, soft and regular massage of these areas dramatically reduces risk of hair loss.
- Start washing your hair with warm water, and at the end rinse it off with cool water. This technique helps keep your hair more protected and invulnerable to physical damage.
- Do not shampoo dry and fragile hair every day. While daily washing can help oily hair stay in a better shape, it can severely damage dry scalp.
- Whenever your wash your hair use additional hair products, which nourish it and make it stronger, such as conditioners, oils, or protein-based hair masks. Putting a warm tower around your head after you've used special treatments is a good idea as well.
- While drying your hair do not rub it roughly with a towel. Hair becomes fragile with age, and therefore requires kind treatment.
- If you experience hair loss, avoid using blow-dryers, getting perms, bleaching or dyeing your hair. In fact in some cases hair loss treatment can be caused by previous excessive use of hair dye or bleach.
- Also try to use as little gel and moose as possible. Most of hair products that are used to increase the volume contain substances that do not make hair healthier.
- Since some people take their hair for granted until the first signs of hair loss appear, the last and the best advice is: do not neglect or ignore your hair. One can always be able to prevent sudden baldness if one pays attention to hair's condition and takes care of it on time.
